Bank of Canada hints at more rate cuts to come

The Bank of Canada hinted on Thursday that it would continue to lower interest rates this year but gave no indication of how deep the cuts would be as the global recession hits the Canadian economy.

(Reuters) - Canadian employers cut more jobs in December than expected for a net job loss of 34,400, with the construction sector posting the biggest declines, Statistics Canada said on Friday. The unemployment rate rose to 6.6 percent from 6.3 percent in November.
